Cook’s landing and the site of the Transit of Mercury. This is the NZ version of Mercury Bay’s first community website (1996 to present) which introduced visitors to Whitianga area from Matarangi and Kuaotunu to the North through Whitianga to Hot Water Beach and Coroglen to the SE and making discoveries along the 302 Road to Coromandel Twp in the west. The website served moteliers and camplands, galleries and potters, activities (kayak, bone carving, church services and events) as well as the local museum. The website is also known for providing the ONLY listing of REAL Hot Water Beach tide times (from NIWA, NZ’s National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research organization).
